maid to order...or ordered by maid

Last night was our second night in the house and we ushered it in by calling up the agent and having them take the maid away...err, sorry housekeeper. My honey tells me it is more politically correct to call her the housekeeper. Although I could call her all sorts of names and she would have just pretended not to understand me. She had no problems telling me she needed things like fish and bread and spices and sanitary napkins and tea pots and calling cards, but when I said "go to car" "get in car" pointed and said "IN" she was unable to understand. Of course, that was because we were going to make her pay for her own things for once. She did her best the entire time to take advantage of us...I don't even feel like writing about it I am so disgusted. She didn't follow instructions like "use glass cleaner" "no madame" she replied " this smells better, I know that glass cleaner." "no really, use the glass cleaner on the glass and not the kitchen cleaner" "no madam, this smells nicer." She snuck friends in...she stole my chewing gum...she ordered me around to the store 3 times in one day by saying she "needed" things. The list goes on and on. And I know some of you will say it is my fault...it sort of was...I was just too darn nice and she ran all over me. She complained and griped...she was worse than a teenager! I am just so glad we fired her because when she left she tried to steal our towels and lotions.

Now we have to find a new one because we bought beautiful furniture for the maids room out back and I can't possibly clean 7 bathrooms...any leads?

Amber you will do well in Oman. The Brazillian infirmeira we had in Natal with Larry, Kathy, and Cynthia took our good money and then told her mother we didn't pay her. The other wives were upset because I paid three times what anyone else did since I thought the pay was usurous. M. Barry

Amber - head to Gulf Shield in MQ by British Council. I just saw a filipina's bio and she had a bachelors in Education. When I asked if they were sure this was for a housemaid, they said 'yes!'

I'll give you a tip. The moment you pick her up from the agency, sit her down in the sitting room and tell her she has a big responsibility in cleaning your home, you expect her to work and then just point out the major things to her. It lets them know from the beginning they have guidelines they must follow.

I've 'ruined' three maids by spoiling them so far...Take it from me - they'll play you for what they can. :*(

I vouch for Gulf Shield. My experience with them has been good.

I usually make the maid sign for receipt of her salary. I've heard stories of maids that go complain to the authorities that they haven't been paid and without written proof you can be made to pay again.

I agree with what L_Oman said. First thing I did with our maid when I was driving her home from the agency was have a talk with her about the kind of things I don't accept and what her responsibilities are.
