how to ask a girl out on a date...

in oman.

Drive by the grocery store in your fly volvo.

Spot a girl about to put her groceries in her car.

Stop.

Back up.

Park.

Get out in your tailored suit along with your driving companion.

Say "excuse me miss"..."err...hello miss"

She says hello back.

Say "we just got a promotion."

Wait.

She stares.

Smile.

"we would like you to come celebrate our promotion with us."

Wait.

She stares.

Smile again.

She looks baffled...and says "no, thank you."

Then say "but it is free food! Any restaurant you want!"

She still says "No. Thank you."

Get in your car and drive away.

Smooth and totally ineffective.

What was that supposed to be? Please explain.
Freaks.

Hi Amber! This sounds like something that's happened to me already in Muscat in my 2 months of being here~, funny isn't? Freaks galore in this li' sultanate :-). Anyway, thank you for the comment on my blog. I haven't updated in a mighty long time coz of busy-ness and also lazyness. Things are still as good as I've descirbed in that entry, although my biggest beef here is not being able to walk solo incognito. Still shocked by the men here and how they are seemingly desperate when they see a woman walking alone, never mind an ASIAN woman! Always am in car, driving to what could possibly be a 2 min walk! Anyway, such is life! I am adjusting very well in Oman, and things are good for the most part. Slowly making and/or forging friendships. That takes time. Will be udpating my blog pretty soon, so stay tuned. Thanks again and hope to hear from you again. I enjoyed a glimpse of your family blog! Best wishes, Intdiva

Oh Amber... jeez...Where do they get the confidence from?!

I think they just play the odds. They might have asked 100 women out for a meal that day. If only one of them said yes, it was worth their time.

I know of a man here who gives a card with his number on it to every women he comes across. Same deal, plus he's married.

Congratulations on selling your house, and no worries about your previous post, and no those 2 have no idea.

There's a lot of wierd myths surrounding LDS. I blame fundamentalists. It's like Islam in that way, the crazies always seem to represent and get main stream notice.

intdiva - oooh - so good to hear from you! I hope you are making friends as it can be difficult being all alone in a new country. Can't wait to read your upcoming entry!

AIO - Girl, let me tell you - I still feel super stupid! My husband likes to read your blog over my shoulder occassionally...he's an engineer and laughs out loud sometimes! Thanks for the congrats on the house sell - but also for being a downright decent chick! I'm in desperate need of an AIO post right about now - I'm having withdrawals :)

Yeah it does take time to make friends... so on that note, will you be one of mine :-)? I guess you'd have to get to know me more via my blog in order to give me permission to your friendship, no? :-) Take care and keep bloggin...I do enjoy my solo-ness but would love to meet ReAL people offline too, fer sure! (FYI, I've got an ecclectic interest ranging from photography, dancing, yoga, cooking, hiking/walking, art, wine etc- so if you fit any of those, it'd be nice...)
