photographic memory
As I mentioned before, one of the more perplexing things in my life is my inability to ever have a camera when I need one or to remember to use it when I do. Without a doubt, I am always grateful I took pictures, but usually I don't remember that when I am caught up in the perfect moment. It is difficult for me to say "stop, freeze" and then click. We recently took a lovely trip to Lille, France where we stopped in Belgium in route and I kept saying "WOW! I wish I had a camera with me!" Then once in Lille, we met our friends the Innis' for the day and I kept saying "WOW! I wish I had a camera with me!" The next day though...my husband had had it. He was sick of hearing me say that over and over and over again. We went into some french electronic store and after consulting with the salesman in rough psuedo-french/english and trying to remember what my friends posted on the blog, I left armed with what I thought was the creme de la creme of family cameras. I would spend the next few days pretending to be a 'professional' photographer. I have to say - some of the pictures turned out quite well! I got the Nikon D5000 and took more than 600 photos in 2 days. Let me tell you, it is soooo much fun to take a ton of pictures in only a second or experiment with what I can capture using different settings that I know nothing about. Sure, most of the stuff didn't come out great...but it is getting there! One of the things that I have to work on personally is getting relevant shots. I always look back and wonder what the heck I was thinking and why I didn't get some shots that would have been more meaningful. So - GOAL uno numero - get shots that will mean something 5 years from now. Let's hope I don't catch the stupid-shot virus again...afterall, I think I have had it for the last 30 years. My family is counting on me to capture some memories!

I was thinking you wanted something smaller so you could easily keep it in your purse or pocket, which is why I suggested the Lumix. But you made an excellent choice for a DSLR, as manifest by your pictures. I love them! I especially love the closeup of Parker in the hat, the kids piled on David, and the kids having their little party. Great job! Looking forward to many more pictures!
Diane...there were about 6 Lumixes...some larger than the one I bought. I got to the store and was like "oh, here is the lumix, and there and there and there...I wonder which one...." I did the same thing with the others...it was difficult, but I think I chose alright. I just hope I don't break this one...I will choke. Thanks for the compliments! I took sooooo many, just trying different things. Eventually I forgot what I tried and what worked and what didn't work. It was fun!
Good just with the Nikon! Nikons are great, but they are bulky. We brought ours to Greece and our Luminx. Overall, the Luminx won and therefore we took that where ever we went. You may want to buy another one for travel and Nikon for family photos at home. Just at thought....
