So, a few weeks ago the Jonas Brothers in Concert movie came out. I'm not particularly a fan...ok, not at ALL...but I am a mother of two young girls who have friends who are also fans. I took them to see the movie. Everyone got Caramel corn, some type of drink (the young ones got a mixed red and blue slushie.) We go in the theatre...and we are the only ones there. I'm cool with that. We get the BEST seats in the house...middle of the mid row. We're waiting for the show to start. A single omani man comes in and sits in the row directly in front of us. The show starts. At no point do any young children meet him. Clearly, my girls think this is weird. As they should. What single Omani man in his early 20's goes to watch the Jonas Brothers? Anyway, at one point he leaves. I take the opportunity to stand up and start dancing...afterall, it is supposed to be a concert. And I must maintain my cool mom status. Eventually all the girls are up, dancing around, down the aisles having a crazy good time. Then the man enters again and sits right back where he was. At first the dancing dwindled...but I challenged them to endure, afterall he was in front of us and not turning around to see what we were doing. The concert movie ended on a good note for all the girls. The guy left at the end.
This weekend marked the next torture round...Hannah Montana the Movie. This time my husband was with me...and this time so were a lot of other people. There would be no dancing up and down the aisles. Right in front of us...sat another early 20's Omani man all by himself.
What does it mean? At first I thought that they might just be checking out the movie to approve their daughters to be able to come and see it...but these guys were far too young for that. Maybe some investigative reporting? Any guesses? Surely they don't like this junk? I mean, I wouldn't sit through it if it weren't for my children...
Onto other news. I had a very good weekend. David took me out to some new restaurants. We tried Japengo...which was nice. A great location with wonderful views and a nice selection of foods. Be prepared...things can be spicy hot there. The sushi rolls were too big to eat (which I hate!) but David enjoyed the tuna (maybe it was salmon) sashimi. I don't do raw fish so I can't really say. Later we went to eat at O Sole Mio which had some crazy weird singer at a keyboard who pronounced everything so funny. They sat us right in front of him. I kept cracking up. I couldn't help it. David kept scowling at me...but I really enjoyed the humour and total cheesiness of the songs he picked out to serenade us with. I will say though that for the prices we paid at both restaurants, the waitor's armpits should NOT have smelled like they did.
We had a tough time earlier in the week...we caught a horrid stomache virus. The kids did pretty well with it. I, on the other hand thought I was dying for 12 hours straight. With no husband...all I could do was have everyone camp out in my room for the time being. Parker at one point, when I thought that I was about to pass out and couldn't even lift my hand to grab the wet washcloth a few feet away, lifted my head and put it on his little legs and very lovingly pointed out the "nasty dot" on the top of one of my ears. I didn't care if he thought my ear freckle was nasty because he grabbed the washcloth and started trying to scrub it off...the result for me was that the wet washcloth actually made it onto my face and neck and helped. It was a very tender moment. Also a bit distressing that my two year old was taking care of me when all I could do was lay on the bathroom floor. What if something bad had happened? I would not have been able to do anything. For this reason alone I am extremely grateful we will be moving to Doha where my husband can come home every night like a regular working father/husband and be with us.
I'm still looking for a maid for all of May and part of June...if you know of anyone let me know...
