reflections

Mirror, mirror on the wall;
Who is the skinniest one of all?

ME! At least according to the mirror in my room. It's a lie of course, because that mirror is what I like to call a "skinny" mirror. It makes me look way slimmer than I actually am. Liar, liar! Keep it up! I don't care if it is not true.

I've always hated mirrors. Something about how revealing they are. In my imagination I look different than what is revealed in a mirror...and it is easier not to see the reminder of the difference. I've always used mirrors as a part of my character transformations before shows and rehearsals. I sit...stare....think....go over my script...put on makeup and watch a change take place. Very visual and telling. Which is good for when you are morphing into someone else. But when you are just yourself? Not so much fun.

BUT I happily say now -

Mirror, mirror on the wall;
Hide my flab and make me small!

We all need a "skinny" mirror when we don't have "skinny" friends (which is someone who tells you you look great even when you don't.)
