a complaint

I have a few complaints...not many...just a few. Like why can't I get the Olympics? That is right! Where are they in Doha? Why aren't they on my TV???? They should be. We should be drinking hot chocolate and watching all the snowy, icy events. I didn't get to see the opening ceremonies....I NEVER miss the opening ceremonies. They always make me cry. I don't know why the olympics does this to me...but I'm pretty much a weepy mess until they are finished. I get happy when the USA wins, and I get happy when other less-likely to win countries win. So, whoever wins, I'm generally happy for. And I cry. I LOVE seeing the flags with the winners standing on the podium, and even if it isn't my own anthem being played I still feel pride and get weepy.

Why am I so weepy during the olympics? And WHY CAN'T I find them on my TV?

I'm just a smidge frustrated. So, I live in this country called Qatar. They want so desperately to be accepted and admired the world over -- yet -- they don't feel like the Olympics is important enough to broadcast? This doesn't make sense. EXCEPT...there is something singularly selfish about Qatar as a country...if it doesn't revolve around them then they don't really want anything to do with it. The winter olympics? I doubt they have anyone representing them. With 2 ice skating rinks there is no excuse for the government to not dole out some cash and get some good coaches here to train some potential competitors. I mean, if Jamaica can enter the bobsled....can't Qatar find a way to be involved enough to get the olympics on TV here? For crying out loud...this year Ethiopia and Kenya are representing at the olympics!!!!! This is just sad....sad for Qatar.

I guess there are more important things to be concerned with at the moment....but dang it! I love the olympics. I love watching it with my kids. I love chanting USA USA USA and flailing our arms into position to coincide with the letters. Will it happen this year? I'm beginning to think it won't.

So sorry you can't get the Olympics over there. We watched Apollo Ohno win the gold for the US last night--he is amazing! We are watching the couples figure skating competition right now. Wish you were here!
Jeremy, Suzy & Avery just left--we had pink cupcakes for Valentines and watched the Olympics--fun!
