I went into Pavo Real with exceedingly L-O-W (said with a lowered voice and drawn out over 5 full seconds) expectations.
I left happy.
Sure, it's not authentic, but it isn't far from it. I could taste a little bit of curry in my enchilada...but ultimately, it was still a lot better than most of the lower end tex-mex restaurants in Texas...and I am so happy to say that it is good enough to kill a craving. Any mexican craving I may have. Wooohoooooooo! So, I give Pavo Real 2 thumbs up! Which I hate to do, because if anyone reads this that might encourage them to actually patron the place and I would rather be able to find a seat immediately upon entering, just like the last time I arrived. PLEASE, if you see me and my brood, and there happens to be a wait - just leave and let us have your place because I am there out of necessity and having to wait to sink my teeth into mexican food will make me very very cranky. Always has - and it always will. Simply smile and hand me the basket of chips. I may let you live.
Parker with his "baby" cup and cut straw.
This shot of the girls was taken just moments after they were fighting with each other over the last chip....I won with my natural born ability to snatch mexican tortilla chips.
A photo of the actual Mid-E-Mex dish. Anything with that much sour cream is a winner! BTW - I can't find sour cream in the stores, is it called something different here? My existence depends on finding some...

Hey Amber, sour cream is one of those ambiguous items that only gets stocked once a month it seems. I usually get it at MQ Al Fair near the milk.
Pavo Real is one of my favorite restaurants here :)
There used to be dancing but they've stopped that now. I'm not sure if the band Los Amigos still play but the singer is awesome!
I didn't like Pavo Real much when I visited it, the food was OK, but it was way too noisy for me to enjoy myself or even to consider going there again.
You can check out our review at the Omani Cuisine with many pictures of the place and the food. Pavo Real - MQ
angry - maybe I will catch you there at some point. Thanks for the sour cream tip! You have no idea how grateful I will be when I find it...
blue chi - I read it. Thanks! We went during lunch and only 3 other groups were there...very quiet. No music, not much noise.
Pavo Real food ain't bad, and the portion size used to be huge. But the reason I haven't been there in years is that the music is way too loud. You have to shout just to have a conversation with the person next to you.
The bar used to be a nice hang out back in their old location. Do they still have karaoke every Monday night?
Amber,
We like Pavo Real too, they used to have menudo on the menu, and it was fantastic. It's Too loud now that I'm a bring married person.
Sour cream: You can make your own, using the juice of half a lemon, a pinch of salt, and one of those small rectangular tetra-pak's of "thick cream" works like a charm.
You can also buy Creme Fresh almost all the time from Sultan Canter or Lulu, which is almost exactly like sour cream. Add a table spoon of lemon juice to make it more "tangy" if you want.
