Visual updates and Insha'allah

Sorry it has taken so long to post some new pictures. I wanted to wait until our air shipment (which came late) arrived with my computer before I started downloading pics off of the camera. I'm going to feature in the post some of our journey to get to Oman. We learned a lot about Insha'allah. This means "God willing" or "if it is God's will." We were introduced to this concept as we sat around in a strange new place waiting for our resident visas to be found. 2 were found and 3 were not. No one seemed in a real hurry to get us in the country. Inshallah...if it happened it is God's will, if not, then it wasn't. Sweet! Later this would be applied to people showing up to pick us up for appointments - sometimes they would be 2 hours late or not show at all...but, Inshallah! No big deal to them...we however, were going crazy. Combustible crazy. Ready to kill someone crazy. And even graver repercussions were that people can't seem to tell the truth. "I will be there in 10 minutes" and then they don't show for an hour. What is the deal with that? Can you trust people here? ahhhhh...that is the crux of the matter...is that it isn't the fault of the people...it is all in God's hands. Personal responsibility doesn't exist. And the mattress...the mattress we are sleeping on is horrible...the real one was supposed to be here 3 weeks ago. Wanna put David in a bad mood? Put him on a bad mattress...he instantly turns into a bear! Time doesn't seem to be a worry over here...in fact, there are very few places where people actually can view a clock. In Texas, every corner has some kind of easily readable clock that tells the time, the temperature and other pertinent information. Here...well, I have only seen 2 clocks in the whole area on the outside of buildings for people to view. And I'm not even sure if they were working. I guess this proves that people are a product of their environment...no clocks - who cares about being on time? Ok, so I am generalising and that is wrong. Let me slap my hand. Time and keeping one's word does mean something to some people around here. Like our Landlord for example...he is a great landlord and has kept his word entirely. Things happening as planned and on time means something to him...so he gives me faith in this society of time ignorers.

Without further ado - SOME PICTURES!

Saying goodbye to Texas!

Our old home...

Our old car...

Nice and snuggly on the plane to Oman!

Waiting for resident visa after the long plane ride.

The only thing Parker would eat for days after arriving: oatmeal!

Our new HOME!
More to come very very soon!

Without a doubt you'll get used to the way things take forever here. Ok, I take that back. You'll somehow learn to cope with it! :)

I think one of the most magnified things to me when I first came here is the whole 'it's not my responsibility' thing that is so prevalent here. :(

I hope you guys are finally settled and have got into the groove of things.

2 carry on each for a total of 10!

L - lack of responsibility drives me nuts and I consider it one of the least plausible excuses to use ever. We all have control over our choices. We are absolutely getting settled in! Thanks!
